The Calypso orchid (Calypso bulbosa), also known as the Fairy Slipper, is a perennial member of the orchid family that blooms in early Spring.

It is native to the montane forests of the Rocky Mountains and has a small pink, purple or red flower accented with a white lip, darker purple spottings and a yellow beard.

Pnoto_family.jpgBev and Terry Brown and Amy and Chris Wilson of Colorado have been showing, training,  and breeding dogs for a combined 25+ years.  Our families were brought together through our mutual love and admiration of Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs.

The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is the largest of the four Swiss Sennenhund breeds. Historically, the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog assisted farmers and herdsmen with daily chores, such as pulling carts and keeping a watchful eye over livestock. Today, the Swissy, as it is known to its friends, is primarily a family dog, though the working dog aptitude remains strong. As a family pet, the Swissy is noted for its versatility, gentle nature, great loyalty, and wonderful disposition toward children.

  The Calypso D litter has left the nest!

Hard to believe that they've grown so quickly, but the D litter babies are heading out to their new homes this week! 
We'd like to thank everybody who expressed an interest in this litter.  We had a huge number of applications and it was a difficult process narrowing down the field to match these puppies with their 8 lucky families.  For those of you who are still interested, we hope you stick around and get involved - come to local Swissy club activities (the website is on our links page), visit us at the dog shows and watch for more open houses that we'll announce here on the website.  We do have another litter in the planning stages, so don't let us forget you!

We're looking forward to the Laramie shows at the end of the month.  For all the Wyoming Swissy fans (and anyone else who feels like making the drive to Laramie), we'll be showing several of the Calypso Swissies, so come and meet Moon, Sophie & Mensa and all the other wonderful Swissies who will be entered on Sunday the 27th and Monday the 28th. We'll post ring numbers and times when they become available.

  • Moon is Select Dog at the Peak to Peak Show
  • Avanti is confirmed PREGNANT!!  Avanti has been bred to Heath and the puppies are due mid-March.  See our Puppies page for more info.

January 2012

  • Happy 5th Birthday to the Calypso A Litter!! 
  • Moon takes 1st place in his weight class and Scrabble takes 2nd in his weight class at the 5M Winter Pull in Greeley 
  • Big CONGRATS to Geneva on the safe delivery of 5 healthy puppies!  Hopefully, we'll have pictures soon. 
  • Scrabble takes 2nds place in his weight class at the IWPA Weight Pull at the National Western Stock Show for a WWDX leg 
 

Our next planned breeding is late spring/early summer 2012, but we appreciate the inquiries we receive from interested puppy buyers.  Please know that patience is key when searching for a Swissy of your own.  Please feel free to contact us because we are likely aware of other planned breedings in our area, and we continue to refer prospective buyers to breeders we trust and respect.  Remember, personal referral is the best way to learn about breedings in your area, because ethical breeders do not advertise puppies for sale in newspapers or through online pet purchasing organizations.
